What is the Stay Study

The Stay Study is one of the first studies to make PrEP, a daily pill to prevent HIV infection, more available to the San Francisco Bay Area trans and gender non-conforming community. The goal of the Stay study is to get you connected to a regular provider who is an expert in trans health, help you get PrEP at no cost, and provide you with the support to take PrEP every day.

Why is it called Stay Study?

The Stay Study provides access and support for taking PrEP, with the goal of helping the trans and gender non-conforming community #stay HIV negative. We celebrate the resilience and diversity of the community, which has faced stigma, discrimination, and transphobia. By providing protection from HIV, that’s one less thing to worry about about—so you can focus on other parts of your life.

Why is the Stay Study important for the trans & gender non-conforming community?

HIV/AIDS is an important health issue that trans people face, especially transwomen of color. In San Francisco, it’s estimated that more than a third of adult transwomen are living with HIV. Many transwomen in Alameda county are living with HIV and there may be significant risks for transmen too. PrEP is a new tool to prevent HIV infection. The Stay Study is focused on getting more trans and gender non-conforming people access to PrEP for HIV prevention.
